The New Jersey Devils placed goalie Martin Brodeur on injured reserve today, retroactive to Feb. 6.
New Jersey, which had been over the 23-man limit since recalling defenseman Jay Leach on emergency conditions Friday, will now be roster compliant.
Brodeur suffered a sprained MCL during the first period of a game against the Montreal Canadiens on Feb. 6. Despite finishing the first period, Brodeur pulled himself from the game.
Brodeur is eligible to come of IR at any time. The Devils' goalie skated on his own today, and had no setbacks. He plans to skate tomorrow, but said he will probably not play in the team's three games this week.
