(Sports Network) -- A couple of program with matching Big East Conference records get together at Fifth Third Arena this afternoon, as the Cincinnati Bearcats entertain the St. John's Red Storm.
The Bearcats, who are sporting an impressive 13-1 record in their own building this season, managed to snap a two-game slide earlier this week with a 71-68 triumph over DePaul on the road. With the win, Cincinnati moved a game over .500 in conference at 6-5, which is where St. John's finds itself at the moment. The Bearcats were a perfect 13-0 versus non-conference foes during the first half of the 2010-11 campaign, but Big East play is a completely different animal.
The Red Storm have seen plenty of highs and lows and on Thursday night the squad exploded with a huge 89-72 romp over nationally-ranked Connecticut, marking the team's third win in four tries. Also during the run was an astounding 93-78 victory over defending national champion Duke.
With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, the Red Storm own a slim 6-5 edge heading into today's matchup. St. John's won the most recent meeting a season ago by a score of 52-50 at home, snapping a three-game slide versus the Bearcats.
