St. John's needed a 7-0 run in the final minutes of play to escape a loss from the visiting Texas-Pan American Broncos Wednesday night at Carnesecca Arena. The Red Storm squeezed out a 66-61 win that moved them to 6-5 on the season and stuck in a three-way tie for last place in the Big East.
St. John's was down by a score of 32-24 at the half. They trailed throughout the game until Sir'Dominic made a layup and a free throw at the 6:40 mark in the second half that tied the game. They finally took the lead on a 3-pointer by D'Angelo Harrison with 38 seconds left to play.
God'sgift Achiuwa led the way for St. John's with 22 points. The junior also added nine rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot in the win. D'Angelo Harrison added 21 points, seven rebounds and one assist in the effort.
St. John's hosts the Providence Friars on Tuesday, Dec. 27, before hitting the road for a New Year's Eve matchup against UConn.
