The St. John's University men's basketball program searches for second consecutive victory Wednesday night, as the Red Storm (5-5) host the Texas-Pan American Broncos (4-9) in a non-conference contest (7 p.m. on ESPN3) at Carnesecca Arena in Queens, NY. This will be the last non-conference game for the Johnnies before they begin Big East Conference play, Dec. 27, against the Providence Friars (9-2).
On Saturday, St. John's snapped a three-game losing streak by edging its New York City rival, Fordham University, 56-50, at Madison Square Garden. Freshman guard Moe Harkless tallied his third straight double-double (13 points and 16 rebounds) to help the Red Strom, who had only six players see action, hold off the Rams.
Currently, St. John's head coach Steve Lavin, who has missed five straight games, is working a modified schedule while recovers from prostate surgery. Under assistant coach Mike Dunlap, the Red Storm are just 2-3 overall.
Meanwhile, the Broncos come from the Great West Conference, and last season finished 6-25. Senior guard Jared Maree paces Texas-Pan American in scoring with 14.8 ppg. So far, Maree leads the Great West in total points, while junior guard Brandon Provo averages 12.6 ppg.
