Jorge Posada: Former Yankees' Catcher Should Retire, Not Grovel For Backup Jobs

Jorge Posada should really just stop this nonsense and gracefully announce his retirement before the situations gets embarrassing for the long-time New York Yankees catcher.

↵

Thursday, a story broke that Posada had expressed interest in being the backup catcher for the New York Mets, but had been rebuffed. Later, it was said that Posada never actually inquired.

↵

Today, Jon Heyman of SI tweeted that Posada has now said he would like to play for the Miami Marlins.

↵

Posada is a proud veteran and was a great player for the Yankees for a long time. He can't catch anymore, though, as he caught just one game a season ago and his defensive skills evaporated long before that. He can't really hit, either, as his .235 average (.092 right-handed) attest.

↵

I can appreciate that Posada still wants to play. The competitive fire still burns, and athletes are the last to know when their skills are gone. You just wonder how many rejection letters Posada is going to receive before the message sinks in.
