Senior forward Hope Pope tallied 24 points and collected 17 rebounds Sunday to help the Seton Hall Pirates earn a 80-77 overtime victory over visiting Mercer Bears in a non-conference contest at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. Pope netted four points in the extra session, while senior guard Jordan Theodore made three of four free throws in the closing minute to cement the Pirates (9-1) sixth straight victory. Meanwhile, sophomore guard Langston Hall paced the Bears (7-4) with 17 points and seven assists.
With 51 second remaining at the end of regulation, Seton Hall led 68-65 after Theodore made a 3-pointer. However, the Bears answered with a 3-ball by Justin Cecil, who tied the game at 68 with 24 second to go.
All five of the Pirates starters finished in double figures. Theodore netted 16, Fuquan Edwin finished with 15, while Patrik Auda and Aaron Cosby each had 10.
