Joe Namath To Be Subject Of HBO Documentary

As if Joe Namath does not get enough media attention via his own website, his Facebook page and his Twitter account, the Hall of Fame quarterback and New York Jets legend is about to get even more face time. HBO and NFL Films are combining a documentary about Broadway Joe, aptly titled 'NAMATH,' to air on HBO Sat., Jan. 28 (8-9;30 p.m. ET).

"Joe Namath is one of the most compelling sports figures of the last 50 years and we are delighted to tell his story," said Rick Bernstein, executive producer of HBO sports. "We will retrace his life not only from Joe's perspective, but also from the viewpoints of many others who are familiar with Joe's extraordinary football career, following his journey from Beaver Falls to today. We hope to present the definitive film on an NFL icon and a trailblazing free spirit."

↵

"In the mythology of pro football, Joe Namath is Arthur," says Steve Sabol, president of NFL Films. "He pulled the proverbial sword from the stone and the NFL became the Camelot of American sports. His story is timeless, authentic and also very human. It is a privilege for NFL Films to partner with HBO Sports once again in documenting the life of ‘Broadway Joe.' "

All those glowing quotes are nice, but am I the only one who is a little tired of the 68-year-old Namath at this point? He is all over the Jets and coach Rex Ryan constantly, and for a guy who seemingly has nothing going on other than being Joe Namath he gets his name and his face out in front enough.

When this airs I certainly won't be fretting about the fact my cable package does not include HBO.
