The Football Championship Subdivision released its playoff schedule Sunday and two New York-based programs, Stony Brook University and the University at Albany, each earned spots in the 2011 bracket and will face one other in the first round of the 19-team, single-elimination tournament. The first-round match up will take place next Saturday, Nov. 26, at Stony Brook at a time to be determined. The winner of that contest will face No. 1-overall seed, Sam Houston State University, Saturday, Dec. 3.
On Saturday, the Seawolves (8-2) defeated Liberty University, 41-31, at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. Junior running back Miguel Maysonet rushed for a game-best 158 yards and a touchdown, while teammate, senior Brock Jackolski, added 121 rushing yards and a TD to help Stony Brook earn the Big South Conference title and its automatic qualifying spot in the FCS playoffs for the first time in program history.
Also winning its first NCAA tournament bid were the Great Danes (8-3), who downed Sacred Heart University, 31-21, to earn a share of the Northeast Conference championship. Quarterback Dan Di Lella tossed for four touchdowns, including two in each half, to help Albany, which faced a tie game, 14-14, at halftime, pull out the victory.
