The Jets signed former Buffalo Bills tight end Shawn Nelson on Monday. The 26-year-old was released by the Bills on Sept. 3 after spending the 2009 and 2010 seasons with the franchise. In 17 games over those two years, Nelson caught 20 passes for 181 yards and one touchdown.
↵The Jets have been using a lot of multiple tight end sets this season. Since Jeff Cumberland went down with a season-ending injury early in the year, Matthew Mulligan has been getting a lot of playing time, especially in the Jets’ Week 7 victory over the San Diego Chargers. It will be interesting to see how the Jets dole out the playing time between Nelson and Mulligan, with Dustin Keller of course being the team’s top-choice tight end.
↵The Jets (4-3) and Bills (5-2) face each other on Sunday in Buffalo in a crucial mid-season AFC East affair.
