The New Jersey Devils were hoping to end their losing ways of late on the road against the Dallas Stars, though the puck unfortunately didn't bounce their way Saturday night, falling by the score of 3-1 at the American Airlines Center.
After Petr Sykora tied the game 1-1 in the second period, Dallas' Vernon Fiddler scored the go-ahead goal on a lucky ricochet with about 8:26 left in the game. Fiddler's shot banked off the skate of Devils defenseman Mark Fayne and past goalie Johan Hedberg easily. It was Fiddler's second goal of the season.
New Jersey pulled Hedberg for an extra player for a 6-on-4 advantage at the end of the game after Dallas' Michael Ryder went to the penalty box. However, the Stars were on point with their penalty kill as the Devils were unable to put pressure on the Dallas defense. Sheldon Souray would find an empty net with 2.7 seconds left to seal the Devils fate.
