Breaking News: Michael Del Zotto Send Down

In a surprising move the New York Rangers have sent down Michael Del Zotto and have recalled Ryan McDonagh

McDonagh was acquired from Montreal for Scott Gomez, and was picked in the first round by the Canadiens in 2007. McDonagh instantly became one of the Rangers more touted defensive prospects, and signed his first professional contract this year, leaving Wisconsin.

McDonagh didn't make the Rangers out of camp, but has really showed promise during his time in Connecticut.

Del Zotto has shown some offensive regression this season, but has improved defensively. Of late, his play has been timid and hesitant. And he has been a turnover machine. Del Zotto has also been a healthy scratch since before Christmas.

The Rangers will be taking a good hard look at McDonagh during his stint, and we'll keep an eye on what's going on with Del Zotto in Connecticut. Hopefully Del Zotto can round out his game a little in the AHL.

Neither player needs to pass through waivers.

Keep it tuned here for more.
