Last week, the Syracuse Orange opened Big East Conference play with home victories against Providence, Dec. 28, and Notre Dame, Jan. 1, and they were rewarded on Monday afternoon.
The Orange (15-0, 2-0), who last week were ranked No. 5 in both the AP poll and the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll, moved up one spot this week and are now fourth in the newest rankings.
The Orange's current position is the highest for the 2010-11 season.
Just like last week, the Big East Conference snuck seven teams into the Top 25. However, the Louisville Cardinals, No. 22 in the AP poll and No. 20 in the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll last week, were left out.
In their place is the Cincinnati Bearcats (14-0, 2-0) who finally moved into the Top 25 at No. 24 in the AP poll and No. 25 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll.
Three other league teams, the Pittsburgh Panthers, Villanova Wildcats, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, moved up in the rankings.
The Pittsburgh Panthers, ranked sixth last week, are now at No. 5 in both polls. Villanovawent from being No. 8 to No. 7 in both polls and Notre Dame went from No. 15 to No 14 in both polls.
Moving down in the rankings were the Connecticut Huskies and Georgetown Hoyas.
Connecticut dropped from No. 4 to No. 8 after losing, 78-6,3 to Pittsburgh last Monday.
Georgetown, which lost to Notre Dame 69-55 last Wednesday, fell from No. 9 to No. 13 in both polls.
