In New York, Giants Are Top Among NFL Fans

New York Jets fans won't want to hear it -- or acknowledge it -- but the Wall Street Journal says the New York Giants are the most popular NFL team in New York City. And it isn't even close.

The study, conducted by Nielsen, had the Giants ranked third in popularity among the NFL's 32 teams. The Jets? A middling 18th. So, Giants rule and Jets drool. At least until the Jets have a Super Bowl ring.

Here, according to the WSJ, is how the study worked.

In a first-of-its-kind study performed this summer, Nielsen Co., the media-research firm, developed a system for ranking the popularity of NFL teams based on each team's local and national TV rankings, how often they're mentioned on the Internet and how many visitors they attract to their official websites. The report, dubbed the Nielsen Sports Media Exposure Index, is the company's first attempt to classify pro-football teams in this manner.

The top two teams, you ask? The Dallas Cowboys (boooooooooooo) were No. 1, and the Pittsburgh Steelers were No. 2.
