Here's the stuff from last night:

  • Is a re-imagining of seven up with 17 to go happening to the Bronx Bombers? After another loss to the Red Sox on Saturday, their lead over Boston is down to 5 1/2 games in the Wild Card, with seven to go, but four of those games are against the BoSox. It sure is unlikely to happen, but you have to think some Yankee fans are ratcheting up the paranoia. David Ortiz went 2 for 4 with two RBI, while JD Drew and Victor Martinez hit back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning off of Chad Gaudin to seal the deal. Curtis Granderson and A-Rod went yard for New York. John Lester threw seven innings of two-hit ball to get his 19th win, while Ivan Nova struggled in the loss. Pinstripe Alley has more.

  • The Devils let up a 3-1 lead to the Rangers and lost in overtime, 5-4 to the Blueshirts in pre-season action at The Rock. Michael Del Zotto had the winner at :52 of OT on a power play goal (the Rangers' last three tallies came with a man advantage), while Ryan Callahan, Matt Gilroy, Artem Anisimov and Russlan Fedotenko also hit paydirt for New York. Ilya Kovalchuk, Andy Greene, Matt Taormina and Brian Rolston scored for Jersey, who have three consecutive OT losses in pre-season. In Lou We Trust and Blueshirt Banter have more.
