Rex Ryan Rules Revis Out For Sunday's Game Against Dolphins

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan declared on Wednesday that All Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis will sit out Sunday night’s game against the divisional rival Miami Dolphins with an injured hamstring.

“He will not play this week,” Jets coach Rex Ryan, speaking on a conference call with South Florida media, said of Revis and his strained left hamstring. "That is true and neither will Calvin Pace (foot). That puts three of our better defensive players out, with (nose tackle) Kris Jenkins being out for the season. "

Before you get too disappointed, take note of Dolphins’ head coach Tony Sparano’s declaration that he’s not buying that Revis is out just yet. After all, teams aren’t required to declare such things until Friday. Sparano thinks Ryan is simply playing head games at this point in the week.

“Well, I’ll believe it when I see it,” he said. " Brett Favre ‘retired.’ You guys told me that was official. When I get out there and I get the report, then that’s what I’ll see. Right now we’re preparing for him to play. If he does not play, then we’ll make our plans accordingly. Right now I think the best-case scenario is to plan for him to play."

Good point. We’ll just have to wait and see. Stay tuned here and at Gang Green Nation for more updates and commentary on the pivotal Week 3 showdown between longtime rivals.
