It just doesn’t look like the New York Jets have it in them to fly underneath the radar this season. No need to explain what I mean: the Jets simply can’t stay out of the news. Following their impressive and pivotal Week 2 win over the New England Patriots, wide receiver Braylon Edwards was arrested early this week on drunken driving charges. Teammates Vernon Gholston and D’Brickashaw Ferguson were also in the car. Franchise quarterback Mark Sanchez was not, but while on air on ESPN 1050 on Tuesday, offered his words of support to Edwards, who faces three misdemeanors.
“I consider him a good friend. He’s like a family member," Sanchez said. "I’ve hung out with him plenty of times before. He’s been a great teammate to me. We’ll do our very best to help him when he gets back.
“I just sent him a text and said, ‘Hey, let me know if I can do anything, if there’s anything I can do.’ I wanted to let him know I’m there if there’s anything I can do.’’
