Morning Coffee! Jeter Can Act, Yankees Can't Win

Good morning, New York sports fans. Let's look around and see what is going on with the local ballclubs today.

  • Even Derek Jeter's best acting job could not save the Yankees Wednesday night as they fell to Tampa Bay, 4-3, and fell out of first place in the American League East. That's five losses in six games for the Yankees to Texas and Tampa Bay, the AL's other two top teams. Not a good sign for October.

  • The New York Mets can't catch a break. Yeah, sure, they beat the Pirates, 8-7, Wednesday. Big deal. What was a big deal was prized young starter Jenrry Mejia leaving the game in the third inning with a shoulder injury. Does anything ever go right for this team?

  • It's Manning Bowl II this week, and both Eli and Peyton said Wednesday that it is easier to deal with this time around.

  • The Jets and Patriots square off Sunday, and both sides are not at a loss for words. Darrelle Revis and Randy Moss are sniping at each other, and Tom Brady still hates the Jets. Oh, and Joe Namath and Terrell Owens don't seem to think much of the way Mark Sanchez played against Baltimore.

  • The New York Red Bulls are apparently going for broke this season. Wednesday they acquired DC United captain Carey Talley for a second-round draft pick.
