Damaso Marte is finished for the season, and Joe Girardi always likes having two lefties in his bullpen.
The Yankees have now given him that, adding journeyman Royce Ring to the 40-man roster.
Ring, 29, spent the season at AAA Scranton-Wilkes Barre, holding left-handed hitters to a .202 average. Ring will not be eligible for the postseason roster as it is after Sept. 1, but in a tight race for the AL East title he might be able to get a couple of big outs the last couple of weeks.
Outfielder Chad Huffman was designated for assignment to make room for Ring.
