Jets Re-sign Clowney, Release Woodward

The New York Jets have signed wide receiver David Clowney and have waived running back Danny Woodhead. The announcements were made by General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Clowney rejoins the Jets after being waived on Sept. 5, 2010. In his two seasons with the Jets, Clowney has played 15 games and caught 15 passes for 217 yards and a touchdown. He established career-highs last season with 14 catches for 191 yards in 13 games. Originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft, he was signed off the Green Bay practice squad by the Jets on October 3, 2007.

Woodhead was signed to the active roster on Oct. 17, 2009, and appeared in 10 of the final 11 games of the 2009 regular season. He recorded eight receptions for 87 yards and rushed for 64 yards on 15 carries. Woodhead was previously signed to the practice squad on Sept. 8, 2009, after being waived Sept. 6. He originally signed with the Jets on May 2, 2008, as an undrafted free agent and spent the 2008 season on injured reserve.
