Good morning, New York sports fans. Here's your first look at today's local sports scene.

- Amazin' Avenue is wondering today why the media has made such a big deal about the trio of Mets who skipped the visit to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Why is it 'hypocrisy' to criticize the trio of Mets, especially Luis Castillo -- who said basically he didn't want to see people with artificial limbs? Sure, the media runs with stories sometimes in an effort to sell papers or get page views on the Internet. Well, blogs do the same thing. It's why such a big deal gets made out of embarrassing moments, or pictures of cheerleaders get posted on websites. To draw traffic. This is really about three men who disrespected people who gave up parts of themselves -- literally -- in service to this country. It's hardly hypocritical to criticize them. ↵
- The polar opposite of the Walter Reed deal is New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin, who brought four-star Gen. Raymond Odiemo to practice to speak to his team Thursday. TC has long had extraordinary respect for the military. ↵
- No games for the Yankee or Mets Thursday night, but there were four important innings of baseball played in AA Trenton. Those were the four good innings pitched by Andy Pettitte as he rehabs from a groin injury. The Yankees will need Pettitte if they want to have a shot at a second straight World Series title, and there is not much time for the veteran lefty to get ready. ↵
- Loving the war of words between Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens and Rex Ryan of the New York Jets. Now, if the Monday Night game between the two teams is as good as the trash talk, then we really have something. ↵
