Yankees 4, Athletics 3: Teixeira's Bat Powers Yankees

Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Mark Teixeira continued to swing a hot bat with three hits and three RBI and A.J. Burnett snapped out of an extended funk with six effective innings in a 4-3 Yankees win against Oakland.

Burnett (10-12) let in three runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and two walks to pick up his first win since July 28. He had lost in three straight turns on the mound and was 0-4 in his last five starts, all Yankee losses.

New York's fifth straight win maintained a one-game lead over the Rays at the top of the AL East standings after Tampa Bay beat Toronto Wednesday.

Mariano Rivera earned his 28th save by fanning Kurt Suzuki with a man on second to end the game.
