Morning Coffee! Jeter Leaves The Babe Behind

Good morning, New York sports fans. Here is your first look at what is going on around the New York sports scene.

  • Derek Jeter surpassed Babe Ruth on the career hits list Sunday. Jeter has reached that point in his career where other great baseball names will come up next to his all the time. More importantly, the Yankees dumped the Red Sox, 7-2. Gotta give it up for Dustin Moseley, who pitched 6.1 effective innings filling in for A.J. Burnett. Rescued off the scrap heap by the Yankees, Moseley has pitched well while Andy Pettitte rehabs a groin injury. See Pinstripe Alley for more Yankee coverage.

  • Ah, the Mets. A bunch of weekend roster moves, but the Mets are still the Mets. They lost to Philadelphia, 6-5, and are back under .500 at 55-56.

  • The Ilya Kovalchuk decision is supposed to come today. Thank God! This mess has made the LeBronathon look like a 40-yard dash. We have you covered on this one, so come back to SB Nation New York for the outcome.

  • The New York Giants and New York Jets enter Week 2 of NFL Training Camp today. See Big Blue View for first-hand Giants reports, and Gang Green Nation for analysis of what is going on with the Jets.

  • The New York Red Bulls played the Chicago Fire to a scoreless tie Sunday night.
