New York Jets backup quarterback Erik Ainge has entered a facility to be treated for substance abuse according to ESPNNewYork.com.
The Jets placed him on the reserved/non-injured list last week.
“I am taking some personal time to address a non-football related illness,” Ainge tweeted. “Thank you for all the love, thoughts, and concerns. I love you all.”
Jets head coach Rex Ryan was reportedly asked Wednesday if the door would be open for Ainge to return when he finishes dealing with these issues, but the coach said he didn’t want to comment due to the personal nature of the situation.
