So, the NFL has apparently sent a memo to NFL teams stating that they are asking umpires for more hustle in getting the ball spotted. Oh, and they might look into getting some guys who are actually in better physical condition.
↵Imagine that! Hustle from the guys officiating the game. And guys who are in shape and have a little athleticism to keep up with some of the biggest, strongest, fastest athletes in the world. What a concept!
↵This has all come about due to complaints that moving the umpire, who generally spots the ball, behind the offense has slowed the game and made it impossible for offenses to get the ball snapped quickly.
↵I get the fact that the league wants to protect these umpires, many of whom were hit during play last season when they stood pretty much where the linebackers are. Maybe they should simply get better athletes, guys who have a chance to get out of the way or won't snap like a twig if they get hit. Slowing the game down is not going to make anyone, except out of shape defensive linemen, happy.
