- The U.S. Open tennis tournament began play Monday. No major surprises, except that there were no major surprises. Follow the action throughout the tournament at SBNation.com. ↵
- The New York Yankees pounded Trevor Cahill and the Oakland Athletics, 11-5, Monday night. I have not heard many complaints about the short right-field porch in Yankee Stadium this year, but Cahill might not be thrilled today. Back-to-back home runs by Mark Teixeira and Robinson Cano barely snuck over the low right-field wall Monday night. ↵
- The New York Mets were overmatched by the Atlanta Braves Monday, 9-3. Do the Mets really have to play the rest of their games? ↵
- The New York Red Bulls will be short-handed when they play Real Salt Lake Sept. 4. That is because four of their players, including star midfielder Rafa Marquez, have been called to their interntional teams for an upcoming event. Players split allegiances between team and country is one of those things that makes soccer unique. ↵
