  • Whereas the Yankees seem to fail to show up every time AJ Burnett takes the hill, they can't help but play to their offensive strengths whenever CC Sabathia toes the rubber. CC was good, not great, and the bullpen was once again very poor and bailed out by Mariano Rivera in a 12-9 victory to even their three-game set with the White Sox at one. Nick Swisher homered for the second night in a row, while Marcus Thames added a two-run bomb, as the Yankees scored twice in the first three innings. Sabathia gave up five runs in seven innings, but it was Joba Chamberlain and David Robertson who nearly let things slip out of hand. Mariano got three outs in the ninth to save it. Pinstripe Alley recaps.

  • The Giants didn't look great in a 24-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in pre-season. Eli Manning threw a pick, Rhett Bomar threw a touchdown to (drumroll ...) Victor Cruz, and Brandon Jacobs ran for 41 yards, with 29 coming on one play. On the other side, Joe Flacco threw for 229 yards and two TD's, while Todd Heap and Anquan Boldin caught passes for scores. The rushing defense looked okay, holding the Ravens to 85 yards on the ground, and Ray Rice to only 13. Big Blue View with more.

  • A beautiful goal by Dane Richards and an insurance tally from Thierry Henry got the Red Bulls their third straight win in Harrison over San Jose, 2-0. New York remains in second place, four points back of first-place Columbus, but 10 points up on third place Toronto with a month left in the season. Once a Metro sums it up.
