Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) – Chipper Jones homered in support of Tim Hudson’s six innings of work in Atlanta’s 4-1 victory over New York in the first of a three-game set.
Jones blasted a solo shot in the seventh inning to tie Juan Gonzalez for 37th place all-time with 434 home runs, and Rick Ankiel chipped in with a pair of hits and two runs batted in, as the Braves bounced back from two tough losses in Cincinnati Saturday and Sunday.
Hudson (12-5) labored through his outing but yielded only one run on six hits while walking three and striking out three for Atlanta, which improved to a major league-best 35-13 at home. Billy Wagner set down the side in order in the ninth to earn his 25th save of the season.
Johan Santana (8-6) lasted seven frames in defeat, giving up all four runs on nine hits while he walked two and struck out a season-high 11 for the Mets, who have dropped three out of four.
