Morning Coffee: A Plea for Some Kind of Sanity

Here's what happened yesterday:

  • The Mets were atrocious.  I don't wanna talk about it.  They lost 14-1.  Adam LaRoche hit two three-run homers in consecutive innings to essentially end it.  The Diamondbacks went 5-1 against the Mets this season, the record the Mets need to obtain against the Phillies and Braves in two three-game series this week to keep any semblance of a playoff hope alive.  Amazin' Avenue brings the pain.

  • The Yankees were shut out by James Shields, 3-0, to lose their second out of three to the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend.  The Rays are now only one game back of New York in the divisional race, though both are more than 5 1/2 games ahead of the nearest challenging Wild Card club (Boston).  Pinstripe Alley has more.

  • Darrelle Revis made his holdout official.  I remain convinced this is to keep Hard Knocks interesting.  Gang Green Nation has the story.

  • The Liberty finished a perfect three-game homestand beating Connecticut 71-67.  Cappie Pondexter scored her 3000th point, becoming the third youngest and second fastest to capture the feat in WNBA history.  The Rutgers alum led the way with 24 for the Libs.
