- If you can play quarterback the New York Giants might need you. The Giants were down to one available quarterback, third-teamer Rhett Bomar, for practice Wednesday. They have added former Holy Cross QB Dominic Randolph as an emergency QB. Coach Tom Coughlin said he had never before run a practice with just one quarterback, and he obviously did not like doing so. - The New York Yankees outslugged the Detroit Tigers, 9-5, Wednesday night in a game featuring six home runs. The Yankees got four solid innings from their bullpen, and with Andy Pettitte now shelved until September the Yankees will need more efforts like that from the 'pen. Pinstripe Alley ↵
- Seems ex-Yankee Mark Melancon, once thought of as a future closer for the team, is a little sensitive. Now with Houston, Melancon took a shot at Yankee fans for not being supportive enough. Toughen up, Mark. You stunk in your brief opportunities in New York, and you deserved the booing. ↵
- The Mets beat the Houston Astros, 3-2, in 14 innings. It's been a long, fruitless season for the Mets. Even though they won, having to play 14 inning is more like punishment than anything to celebrate. Amazin' Avenue ↵
