Morning Coffee: The Yankees-Royals Game is Still Happening

Here are some things that I saw:

  • Two hours and 41 minutes of rain delays and a fifth inning Billy Butler home run tapered the spirits of Yankee fans, who saw their club lose 4-3 in Kansas City Friday. The Yanks had 1st and 3rd with 2 outs in the 9th, but Joakim Soria shut down Robinson Cano to win it. Luckily, the Orioles continued to live in Bizarro/Showalter World and beat Tampa 5-0 to keep the Rays at bay and two games back. The second game of that series will be featured as the FOX game in the New York area this afternoon. Visit Pinstripe Alley for all your Yankee news.

  • The R.A. Dickey threw a one-hitter (7,759 games without a no-no!) and the Mets got a 1-0 victory over the Phillies in their second consecutive weekend series. Carlos Beltran hit an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth, and the Mets got back-to-back complete game shutouts for the first time since 2002, when Pedro Astacio and Jeff D'Amico accomplished the feat, which feels like someone is lying to me. Dickey was two over the minimum, walking only one and striking out seven, his only hit given up to Cole Hamels in the top of the sixth. The Mets won consecutive games for the first time since late June. Sigh. Amazin' Avenue sighs with me.

  • Sexy Rexy's plan for the Giants-Jets pre-season showdown is an intriguing one: not preparing. Gang Green Nation has the story.
