Morning Coffee! Mariano Rivera Is Human

Good morning, New York sports fans. Here is your first look at today's local sports scene.

  • Apparently, Mariano Rivera is human. The New York Yankees closer suffered the loss Tuesday night as Texas beat the Yankees, 4-3. The Yankees get to face Texas ace Cliff Lee today. Gee, won't that be fun? Yankee fans, if you weren't mad at the Seattle Mariners a couple of weeks ago for backing out of a deal to send Lee to New York, you should be now. The Rangers are good, and Lee makes them a huge playoff threat.

  • The Mets and the slumping Mike Pelfrey beat 17-game winner Ubaldo Jiminez and the Colorado Rockies, 1-0? Did I read that right? Did that really happen? It did, and the Mets had to be thrilled to see the Pelfrey who pitched in the first half of the season reappear Tuesday night.

  • Rex Ryan says the Jets will be OK without Darrelle Revis. Well sure, they have plenty of talent at other places. If Revis is not there, though, there is no way the Jets win the Super Bowl. Ryan's bluster has set up 2010 as a 'win the Super Bowl or fail' season for the Jets. Without Revis, no way they accomplish that. So, ultimately, they would not be OK.

  • Can you play tight end? If so, get yourself to the University at Albany and report to General Manager Jerry Reese's office immediately. The New York Giants need you. The Giants have five tight ends on the 80-man roster, but only one was healthy enough to participate in Giants Training Camp Tuesday.

  • I can't quite decide if the New Jersey Nets should be honored or annoyed that they were selected to play two home games in London during the 2010-2011 season.
