Unfortunately, Chad Jones’s time as a New York Giant appears to have come to an end. Gregg Rosenthal of ProFootballTalk.com reports that the Giants have waived Jones who nearly lost a leg in a car accident.
A sobering summer for Giants safety Chad Jones took another sad, but probably inevitable turn on Thursday when the Giants waived the third-round pick out of LSU.
Jones recently returned to Lousiana after a month-long hospital stay following a car accident that almost cost him his leg. The transaction was made with the intention of placing Jones on the reserve/non-football injury list once he clears waivers.
The Giants have taken extra care of Jones since his accident, but this is a reminder that the business of football waits for no man. Jones will no longer take up a roster spot, and the team doesn’t have to pay his base salary.
ProFootballTalk also reports Jones will keep his $825,000 signing bonus.
