Good morning, New York sports fans. Here is your first look at today's New York/New Jersey sports scene.

- Look up 'futile' in the dictionary and the example used might be New York Mets' batters attempts to hit a baseball. The Mets completed a 2-9 road trip with, of course, a 1-0 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Appropriate for a road trip in which the Mets apparently left their bats at home. Lots of reports that Bobby Valentine wants to interview for the Cubs' managerial job. Shoot, if this keeps up maybe Valentine's old job with the Mets will be open soon. ↵
- Alex Rodriguez will have to try to hit his 600th career home run away from Yankee Stadium. The Yankee slugger could not find the fences Sunday. Curtis Granderson did, though, homering twice in a 12-6 New York Yankee victory over Kansas City. Maybe Granderson, having an awful year in his first season as a Yankee, is finally starting to turn his season in the right direction. ↵
- The New York Red Bulls defeated Manchester City, 2-1, Sunday. Thierry Henry did not score. ↵
- The New York Giants signed veteran middle linebacker Keith Bulluck over the weekend. Despite questions about Bulluck's age and his readiness following a season-ending knee injury in 2009, this was a risk worth taking for the Giants. Before Bulluck's arrival, there was no proven middle linebacker on the roster. ↵
