Morning Coffee: Yanks Quick and Painless, Mets Slow and Tortured

Another day, another sad one for New York baseball fans:

  • Sergio Mitre's audition for an occasional spot in the rotation was a failure, as Jose Guillen homered en route to a 7-4 Royals victory.  It brought the Royals back to a 2-1 deficit in the series and a chance to tie it on Monday.  Mark Teixeira homered twice and Jorge Posada once for New York.  Pinstripe Alley with more.

  • The Mets took another painful extra innings loss, marking two in a week.  The Dodgers defeated New York by a score of 3-2 in 13 innings.  Oliver Perez took the loss, giving up a solo homer in the 13th to James Loney.  Mike Pelfrey bounced back, but outside a two-run 6th, the Mets offense looked terrible again.  Amazin' Avenue brings the pain.
