Morning Coffee! Henry Can Score, Mets Can't

Good morning, New York sports. Here is your Friday morning first look around the local sports scene.

  • Thierry Henry debuted impressively in front of 20,312 New York Red Bulls fans Thursday night. Henry scored in a 2-1 loss to Tottenham. Howard Megdal was there, so be sure to check out his thoughts on Henry's performance. See Once A Metro for more.

  • Alex Rodriguez hit his 599th home run Thursday night. There has been little to no attention paid to A-Rod's approach to 600 home runs, and it was nice to see Yankee Stadium come alive when Rodriguez came to the plate in the 8th inning with a shot at the milestone. Signs, flashbulbs and a noticeable buzz around the building. I was glad to see it. See Pinstripe Alley for more.

  • Maybe the punch-less New York Mets should have signed Henry rather than the Red Bulls. The soccer star can do what the Mets seemingly can't -- score. The Mets forgot their bats again Thursday in a 2-0 loss to the Dodgers. See Amazin' Avenue for more.
