Morning Coffee: A Saturday of Losers

Not a good one for our beloveds, regardless of who you were rooting for.  Lets recap:

    ↵
  • Mets dropped their third straight to San Francisco, 8-4, despite getting two homers from Ike Davis.  Hisonori Takahashi probably paved the way for a return from Oliver Perez and/or John Maine with his terrible, 2 2/3 inning performance.  So, you know, thanks Taka.  The Mets are still only five games back of the Braves (who lost to Milwaukee), but drop to third place in the NL East after the Phillies came back in the 9th to beat Chicago.  They are two games behind Wild Card leaders the Giants and St. Louis.  The Mets will rue not getting any run support for their staff in those first two games when the season's over.  Amazin' Avenue vents further

  • The Yankees had a bad afternoon as well.  AJ Burnett hurt himself, and then lied about it, en route to a 10-5 Yankee loss to Tampa.  Reid Brignac had two home runs and five RBIs, despite MLB The Show telling me he'll never hit home runs.   Rays come back to within two games of the Yanks in the AL East.  Pinstripe Alley with more.  Pinstripe Alley is filled with regret.

  • The Red Bulls, despite the impending joining of Thierry Henry, looked bad without him in a 2-0 loss to Columbus.  Metro remains in 2nd place in the East, five points behind the Crew.  Once a Metro has more.

  • The Knicks topped a John Wall-less Wizards in summer league action, 109-107.  They finish off the rookie competition with a 3-2 record out in Vegas.  Check out Posting and Toasting for more.
