Morning all.  Hope your weekend is off to a good start.  Here's what happened on the scene this evening:

  • Yankees won one on a walk-off single from Nick Swisher in honor of their beloved owner George Steinbrenner, who passed away this week.  The team also honored former PA announcer and Voice of God Bob Sheppard.  The Yanks took it over Tampa 5-4.  They move to 3 games up on the Rays in the AL East, 6 and 1/2 over the Red Sox who also lost, and won this battle of what was hyped as "the two best teams in baseball".  Read Pinstripe Alley for more.

  • Meanwhile out west, it could be turning into a nightmare weekend for the Metropolitans.  They lost another close, low-scoring game to San Francisco.  Old nemesis Pat Burrell ended up sort of burning the Mets again, grounding into a fielder's choice to drive in the only run.  The good news is that Carlos Beltran popped a double in his second game back, but the Mets have now lost the last two games by a score of 3-0, with everyone from their opening day dream lineup except Jose Reyes in it.  Is he the straw that stirs the drink?  We won't find out until Sunday.  Atlanta, Philadelphia and Colorado all lost, so fortunately the Mets have not lost any ground in the division or Wild Card races.  Amazin' Avenue has the full recap.

  • The Knicks pulled out a win in Las Vegas during summer league action, beating the Pistons, 92-80.  They're 2-2 in Summer League play.  Poasting and Toasting has the total scoop.
