  • Tim Lincecum of the San Francicso Giants was too good for R.A. Dickey and the New York Mets Thursday night, pitching a 2-0 shutout. Lincecum has reached 50 victories faster than and Giants pitcher not named Juan Marichal. Lincecum's funky delivery, and the fact that he is not a big guy, fly in the face of all the conventional scouting and coaching wisdom. He is, however, at the head of the class of a core of great young starters in the majors right now.

  • The New York Yankees open the second half against Tampa Bay tonight at Yankee Stadium. The focus of the evening is more likely to be on the passing of owner George Steinbrenner and legendary PA announcer Bob Sheppard. Both will be honored tonight.

  • Thierry Henry was officially introduced by the New York Red Bulls Thursday. Howard Megdal spoke with Red Bulls coach Hans Backe, who said the team hopes to keep adding pieces.

  • The New York Giants waived injured wide receiver Domenik Hixon and added return man Adam Jennings. Jennings comes with a rep as a solid all-around special teams player, something the Giants could really use.
