Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) – Nick Swisher hit a two-run homer and three- run double while Curtis Granderson added a grand slam, as the New York Yankees took a 12-7 victory over the Baltimore Orioles in the opener of a three-game series.
The five RBI tied Swisher’s career high, while the grand slam was the second of Granderson’s career. Mark Teixeira went 3-for-4 with a two-run shot, his first homer since May 30. He had batted 4-for-28 with no RBI in the seven games since.
Robinson Cano went 3-for-4 and walked once for the Yankees, who have won nine in a row against the Orioles.
New York provided plenty of run support for Phil Hughes (8-1), who picked up the win after allowing three runs on nine hits in six innings.
