Sabathia Wins For First Time In Six Tries

Bronx, NY (Sports Network) – Alex Rodriguez and Brett Gardner homered in support of CC Sabathia’s seven solid innings, as New York downed Baltimore 6-3 to complete a three-game series sweep at Yankee Stadium.

Sabathia (5-3) allowed three runs on three hits, while walking one and striking out seven to win for the first time since May 3. The Yankees have taken eight in a row over Baltimore after dropping the first game of the season series.

Robinson Cano had a run-producing double to extend his hitting streak to 17 games, while Curtis Granderson chipped in with two hits and a run batted in to help the Yankees finish their homestand with six wins in seven games.

Joba Chamberlain tossed a shutout eighth inning before Mariano Rivera stranded two runners in the ninth to earn his 12th save of the season.

Kevin Millwood (0-6) absorbed the loss after allowing six runs on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings. He walked four and struck out five, as the Orioles suffered their eighth straight loss.
