Morning Coffee: In Parallel Puerto Rican Universe, Everyone but Jason Bay Sucks in Met Loss

During the Met game tonight - which the club lost 10-3 by making some timely errors and R.A. Dickey not having his knuckleball magic and the Met bullpen never having magic to begin with - there was discussion of why Jason Bay hasn't been good for the club in my house.  I'm a defender of J-Bay, having seen David Wright struggle immensely against pitching he'd faced before in new Citi Field last year, can only imagine how difficult it has been for Bay facing a lot of unfamiliar faces, despite returning to the NL after starting his career there.

So I was quite happy with Bay notching his second two-homer game of the season and knocking in the Metropolitans only three runs.  Not much else, to be honest.

Anyway, the rest of your sporting day:

  • Qualifying offers to Restricted Free Agents (RFAs) are being sent out in the NHL on the eve of the free agent signing period.  The Devils made qualifying offers to David Clarkson and Rod Pelley among others, the Rangers qualified Brandon Prust but not Eric Christensen, and the Isles seemed to qualify everyone but Sean Bergenheim, which has Lighthouse Hockey extremely annoyed

  • The Nets named their roster for summer rookie camp and the NBA's rookie summer league down in Orlando.  The squad, coached by Popeye Jones among others, will feature Derrick Favors and Terrence Williams, but not Jordan Crawford.  The Nets will take on the Sixers, Pacers, Magic, Jazz and Celtics in Orlando from July 5-9.
