Mets Pound 16 Hits, Defeat Tigers, 14-6

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - Angel Pagan went 4-for-6 with four runs batted in and three runs scored, as the New York Mets used a 16-hit attack to dominate the Detroit Tigers, 14-6, in the opener of a three-game set at Citi Field.

Ike Davis added three hits and three RBI for the Mets, who snapped a two-game skid. David Wright and Jason Bay each knocked in two runs for the victors.

Jon Niese went 4 2/3 innings in the start, allowing six runs on seven hits. Fernando Nieve (2-3) tossed a scoreless 2 1/3 frames of relief to pick up the win.

Brennan Boesch hit a two-run homer and drove in a total of three runs for the Tigers, who had won eight of nine coming in.

Justin Verlander (8-5) lasted just two-plus innings, giving up five runs on five hits to take the loss.
