Morning Coffee! Yankees Enjoy Sweet Smell Of First Place

The New York Yankees' 4-0 victory over the New York Mets Sunday gave them two of three in the Subway Series. More importantly for the Yankees, they are alone in first place in the American League East for the first time since April 21.

The only problem with winning for the Yankees? It could lead to more Lady Gaga in the clubhouse.

Yankee catcher Francisco Cervelli seems to be rising on the list of players fans of opposing teams love to hate. SB Nation's Pinstripe Alley, which has a lovefest with Cervelli, has reaction to that.

Yankee fans don't, however, have a lovefest with Carl Pavano. The ex-Yankee  earned a complete game victory Sunday, beating Roy Halladay and the Phillies, 4-1. Pavano has eight wins this season. He had nine in his four seasons with the Yankees.

The Mets had plenty of action off the field Sunday. They decided to send prized 20-year-old Jenrry Mejia to AA Binghamton and allow him to start. They also announced that starting pitcher John Maine, currently on the disabled list, is headed back to the doctor.
