New Jersey Devils star Zach Parise likes the hiring of John MacLean as head coach.
Because MacLean was an offensive-minded player—he remains the Devils’ all-time leader with 347 goals career goals—Parise is optimistic that the Devils will become more of an offensive-minded team.
“Hopefully, that’s what he’ll bring,” Parise said. “Hopefully, we’ll be a lot more offensive minded and play more of a puck-possession game because that’s the way these teams that are winning now play.”
Parise believes a young coach such at MacLean, 45, will bring a breath of fresh air to an organization that has failed to get out of the first round of the playoffs the past three seasons.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” Parise said of playing for MacLean,. “Hopefully, he’ll bring some new ideas, something fresh for all of us, because we need that.”
