SEC-Big East Challenge: Rutgers Beats Auburn, Earns Third Straight Victory

Rutgers forward Dane Miller tallied a team-high 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead Rutgers past Auburn, 63-54, in Pittsburgh, PA at the SEC-Big East Invitational on Saturday.

Despite a very sluggish first-half start, the Scarlet Knights (6-2) went 0-for-12 from the floor in the games' first seven minutes, Rutgers earned it's third straight victory.

About seven minutes into the game, Auburn (3-5) led 11-4 because of Rutgers slow start. However, Scarlet Knights' guard James Beatley nailed a 3-pointer to ignited a 12-0 run, which gave Rutgers a 17-11 lead. From there, the Scarlet Knights never trailed.

Rutgers, which led 29-24 at halftime, opened up a 17-point advantage, 51-34, with just over five minutes remaining in the game.

The Tigers did trim the Scarlet Knights advantage to seven points with about five minutes to go, but Rutgers made its free throws and held on for the win. 

Beatley finished with 13 points while teammate Jonathan Mitchell netted 14.
