Saturday Afternoon Observations

If you're out hunting for a Christmas tree or busy this Saturday afternoon, here's recap of what you've missed:

↵

-- The Rutgers men's basketball team improved to 6-2 overall with a 63-54 victory over Auburn.

↵

This was the first time I witnessed the new-look Scarlet Knights under first-year head coach Mike Rice and they played solid despite starting very sluggish.

↵

However, Rice stole the show with his frantic yelling and pace up-and-down the sidelines. If you haven't seen him before its very entertaining to watch. He reacts to everything on the court and makes the smallest mistake seem life or death.

↵

If you think Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim is bad. Rice blows him out of the water.

↵

-- In the FCS playoffs, non-seeded Villanova dominated top-seeded Appalachian State, 42-24, in the quarterfinals.

↵

The Wildcats (9-4), which are rumored to have a "it's up to you" invitation to join the Big East Conference, will play either Eastern Washington or North Doakota State next weekend in the semis.

↵

It will be interesting what effect, if any, a FCS Championship will have on 'Nova's decision to move up to FBS status.
