WFAN's Chris Carton reported that Moss and the Jets had met.
"Randy Moss, I’ve learned, was in Boston Monday, and was in New Jersey yesterday. Meaning, you’ve got yourself the Patriots and the Jets talking about Randy Moss," Carton announced alongside Boomer Esiason.
"There’s no doubt in my mind, just to prevent the Patriots from going down that road again, the Jets will put a claim in for Randy Moss," Carton said.
Boomer added, "I would think that if he falls to the Jets, then the Jets would take him."
The Minnesota Vikings waived Moss Tuesday. Teams have until 4 p.m. EST today to put in claims, and highest team on the waiver priority list who claims him will be awarded Moss. The Jets are 27th on that list, based on their 5-2 record.
Linebacker/defensive end Shawne Merriman was waived by the San Diego Chargers Tuesday and is also available on waivers today. If neither player is claimed by anyone they will become free agents able to negotiate with any team.
