The United States did its best to make a comeback but fell just short of retaining the Ryder Cup, losing 14 1/2 – 13 1/2 to the Europeans on Monday.

Once again, the Ryder Cup provided drama like no other golf event.

Golf fans who had the day off or were able to sneak a peek at work, witnessed why everyone loves this event. The play in the final round was great, the European fans were passionate and the ending, yet disappointing for U.S. fans, came down to the very end thanks to a late U.S. charge.

U.S. fans can take pride in how superstars Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson and young guns Ricky Fowler and Hunter Mahan performed on Monday.

The drama and tension that unfolded should carry over to the 2012 Ryder Cup, which will be held at Medinah Country Club, near Chicago.

Golf’s year ended with a bang. Unfortunately, just not the way U.S. fans wanted it to.
