Chester, PA (Sports Network) – The Philadelphia Union earned a 2-1 win over Red Bull New York in their last game at their home stadium – PPL Park – this season.
The Union, in their inaugural season in Major League Soccer, will not be in the upcoming playoffs, but they still finished their home schedule a very respectable 6-3-6.
Fred got the home side off and running in the eighth minute when knocked in a loose ball in the penalty area after a corner kick.
The Union went up 2-0 in the 28th minute when Michael Orozco Fiscal was set up by Sebastian Le Toux, who recorded his 11th assist of the season. Le Toux controlled the ball on the right side of the area before playing a square ball into the middle of the box to Orozco Fiscal, who slotted home.
New York got a goal just after the break when Danleigh Borman struck a left footed shot from the top of the box off a feed from Mehdi Ballouchy, but that was as close as they could get.
Both teams conclude their regular seasons next week, with the Union (8-14-7) traveling to Columbus next Sunday, and New York (14-9-6) hosting New England on Thursday.
