Syracuse At Providence Preview: No. 1 Orange Visit Friars In Big East Contest

The No. 1-ranked Syracuse Orange visit the Providence Friars Wednesday (9 p.m. on SNY). Also, in action are the Rutgers Scarlet Knights who host the West Virginia Mountaineers at the Louis Brown Athletic Center (7 p.m.).

The Syracuse Orange men's basketball program will play their second straight road game Wednesday, as they travel to the Providence Friars for a Big East Conference contest (9 p.m. on SNY) at the Dunkin Donuts Center. The Orange (15-0, 2-0 Big East) are looking to earn their fourth consecutive victory over the Friars (11-4, 0-2), who have lost their first two league games by an average of 16.5 points.

For the fourth straight week, Syracuse remained atop the college basketball polls, as it was ranked No. 1 in both the AP poll and USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll. This is the second-longest streak in program history that the Orange have stayed No. 1. During the 1989-90 season, Syracuse was ranked No. 1 for six consecutive weeks.

On Sunday, the Orange earned their sixth straight victory by 15-plus points by routing host DePaul Blue Demons, 87-68. Senior forward Kris Joseph netted a game-best 22 points, while sophomore center Fab Melo tallied tied a collegiate-best in points (12), while adding six blocks and five rebounds. Sophmore guard Dion Watiers netted 16 points off the bench.

Currently, Joseph leads the Orange is scoring (14.0 points per game), while Waiters is averaging 12.5 ppg. The Orange have five players averaging 20-plus minutes per game.

Meanwhile, the Friars are led by junior guard Vincent Council, a Brooklyn, NY native, who's averaging a team-best 16.1 ppg and 6.6 assists per game. Sophomore guard Gerard Coleman is averaging 15.3 ppg and 5.9 rebounds per game.
